The Inclusive Psalter project grew out of a felt need for a gender-inclusive version of the psalms that stayed closer to the 1979 Book of Common Prayer translation than other new versions, such as the St. Helena Psalter. This psalter is not a new translation, but rather an adaptation of the 1979 BCP text.
We offer two versions of the psalter here. The primary version, most suitable for individual or personal use and study, includes all of our footnotes explaining adaptation choices, as well as using “YHWH” to replace the term “the LORD” which usually stands in for the divine name of God. Recognizing that the unpronounceable/unspeakable divine name might be a stumbling block for communal liturgical use of the psalter, we also offer a version intended for congregational use, which uses “GOD” to replace “the LORD” throughout. This version is available here:
